I began studying midwifery in 1995 with self-study, study groups, classes, workshops and conferences. In 1999 I attended Maternidad La Luz, an intensive 13-month midwifery program and birth center, where I attended over 100 births. I began practicing homebirth midwifery in Humboldt County in 2001, taking breaks from midwifery at times to follow other pursuits. In total, I have attended 200 births. I am a California Licensed Midwife and a Certified Professional Midwife. I am certified in IV therapy, CPR and neonatal resuscitation. I believe that birth can be a powerful spiritual, emotional, mental and physical experience for the birthing woman, her family and her baby. The births I’ve had the privilege of attending have been powerful and inspiring experiences in my life.
